Special Lighting of 'Mining Minds' Honors December Graduates

The Mining Minds pick at the UTEP roundabout will be illuminated in blue and orange from Wednesday evening, Dec. 12, through Sunday evening, Dec. 16, to commemorate The University of Texas at El Paso’s summer and fall graduates in the Class of 2012.

The special lighting honors the more than 2,300 graduates who will receive their UTEP diplomas during one of three Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Don Haskins Center.

Mining Minds is an iconic piece of public art installed in 2010 to enhance The University of Texas at El Paso campus. At night, orange lights illuminate the steel structure while LEDs emanate from the perforated ones and zeroes at each end of the pick.

On special occasions, including historic dates, major annual milestones and to celebrate special accomplishments, the pick is illuminated in blue and orange.
