Metropolis

The UTEP Dinner Theatre presents its third production of the musical Metropolis, based on the 1927 silent film by Fritz Lang. The year is 2066 and the inhabitants of the world are divided into two classes: an elite “ruling” class living in luxury on the planet’s surface, and the working class, who toil below ground, doomed to serve from birth to death as slaves to the monstrous machines they tend. Joseph Brooks, Academy Award winning composer of “You Light Up My Life,” wrote the score. Time magazine calls Metropolis “a rousing and at times spell-binding musical!” Information: www.utep.edu/udt

Alumni Pick-Nic

Generations of UTEP alumni will meet from 4 to 7 p.m. to share old memories and create new ones at the first UTEP Alumni “Pick-Nic.”

Miner alumni – and there are about 40,000 in the El Paso area – are invited to spread out their blankets, lawn chairs and ice chests at the park, 3200 Copper Ave. (between San Marcial and Luna streets) and be part of what coordinators believe will become a special Miner tradition. The event is one of almost 20 scheduled July 14 around the country where people will celebrate being Miners with food and fun.
