As the semester winds down and students finish up their classes and final exams, a sinking feeling might hit the Miner Nation: it’s almost The University of Texas at El Paso’s 100th birthday, and we haven’t gotten anything yet!

Whether you want to deck your family’s halls in orange and blue to show off your University pride as you ring in the New Year, or if you’re looking to find a small gift for the meaningful people in your life, there is something for everyone to celebrate UTEP’s Centennial.

CENTENNIAL POSTCARDS

It’s easier to dash off a quick email or Facebook post than to sit down and write a letter, so consider sending someone you care about the gift of a postcard mailed every few months. There are several postcard designs available for purchase at the Centennial Museum, each featuring distinctive images from around the UTEP campus.Centennial gear is available this holiday season and throughout the Centennial Celebration in 2014. There’s a post office in Union Building East, so you can jot down a few sentences, buy a stamp and mail off a special memory or message between classes.

Speaking of memories and messages, as part of the Centennial Celebration, UTEP invites students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends to participate in the Centennial stories project and share their experiences, memories and dreams, all of which will be preserved in the University Library. Many stories will be shared online, in exhibits and in published materials during the Centennial Celebration.

KEYCHAINS AND LANYARDS

In a world full of keys, you can’t go wrong with a keychain or lanyard. Each keychain proudly displays the Centennial logo and is available at the University Bookstore in orange or blue. The lanyards are available at the Centennial Museum.

CENTENNIAL DIPS AND SALSAS

Even after all the winter festivities have died down, there will still be plenty of opportunities to indulge in the Centenario Bean Dip, Salsa or Chile con Queso (available at the museum gift shop) as football season heads toward Super Bowl Sunday.

WINE

For those in the Miner Nation who are of age, the Alumni Association is offering specially crafted Centennial wines through their website.

MUGS AND COASTERS

It’s easy to please coffee or tea lovers with an elegant blue mug displaying the Centennial logo from the bookstore. Specially designed coasters are on sale at the museum and feature Bhutanese-inspired mandalas, reminding us of the University’s unique relationship with the Kingdom of Bhutan.

CALENDARS AND PAYDIRT PETE BAGS

If your New Year’s resolution includes becoming more organized and going green, then the Centennial calendars and reusable Paydirt Pete bags are a perfect way to start and can be found in the museum gift shop.

SHIRTS, TIES AND SCARVES

If you or someone in your family is lacking the right color for Orange Friday, the Centennial Museum has a Paydirt Pete T-shirt shrink-wrapped in the distinctive pickaxe shape, a lovely orange silk tie with tiepin and a silk scarf featuring the distinctive architecture of the UTEP campus.

An orange polo with the Centennial logo from the bookstore keeps your casual Friday classy. Top it off with a Centennial lapel pin to show how you and your family have picked UTEP.
