The UTEP Department of Music will perform its 10th annual gala at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the Magoffin Auditorium. More than 300 students and faculty members from the Department of Music will join together to perform a range of pieces showcasing the talents of the individuals who make up the department.
“The Gala was designed to be an integrated event so students from different divisions could witness the achievements of the department as a whole,” said Lowell E. Graham, D.M.A., chair of the Department of Music. “It is a very complex event that is a working tool for leadership and followership for all our students and faculty.”
The wide variety of ensembles performing during the gala include UTEP Symphonic Winds, Mariachi de los Mineros, UTEP Chorale, the Flautistas, UTEP Symphony Orchestra, the Pandemonium Percussion Ensemble, UTEP Piano Department, Opera UTEP, Men's Glee Club, the Trumpet Ensemble, and the UTEP Marching Miner Regiment.
In addition, local philanthropists J.O. and Marlene Stewart will be honored with the Outstanding Contributors of Music Award by the Department of Music. Jimmy Olivas, owner of Olivas Music, will be recognized as the year’s Outstanding Alum for more than 30 years of providing music essentials for El Paso elementary, middle, high school, and university band and orchestra programs.
Tickets for the gala are available at the UTEP Ticket Center or 30 minutes prior to the concert. Prices are $10 general admission, or $5 for seniors, military, students, and UTEP faculty and staff.
"This is a unique opportunity for the audience to experience the power and majesty of the fabulous music making that is happening on our campus,” Lowell said.
