UTEP Police Warn Public about False Solicitation

The University of Texas at El Paso reminds the El Paso community that its students, staff and faculty do not engage in door-to-door solicitations.

A community member notified UTEP officials this week that he was approached by a man who claimed to be a University music student. He solicited donations by claiming that the UTEP band is raising funds to take a trip to London.

“These solicitations occur several times each year and I want the community to know that UTEP does not permit these practices,” said UTEP Police Chief Cliff Walsh.

Anyone with concerns should report such solicitations to University Police at 915-747-5611, or the El Paso Police Department at 915-832-4400.

Individuals who want to donate to UTEP are encouraged to contact the University Development Office at 915-747-8533.
