The University of Texas at El Paso’s Center for Accommodations and Support Services (CASS) seeks nominations for UTEP’s 2nd annual CASS Opportunity and Challenge Awards, which will be presented Oct. 7 during Ability Awareness Week.
Awards could be given in the categories of student, staff, faculty and community advocate. Details about each honor and nomination forms can be found through the CASS website, sa.utep.edu/cass. Click on the “events” link. Nominations must be received by Aug. 1.
“There are people on campus and in the community who make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Bill Dethlefs, Ph.D., director of UTEP’s CASS. “We want to recognize them as a University and thank them for their advocacy that promotes a positive perception of people with disabilities.”
The recipients will be named during a ceremony Monday, Oct. 7, in the Tomás Rivera Conference Center in Union Building East to help kick off Ability Awareness Week, which is part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Last year’s winners were Luis Enrique Chew, executive director of VOLAR Center for Independent Living, community; Joann Cross, a senior communication major, student; Eva Moya, Ph.D., assistant professor of social work, faculty; and Jorge Villalobos, Ph.D., director of Facilities Services, staff.
